RTQ Database: Disneyland

The RTQ Database was created as an way to keep track of disabled guests’ experiences in the parks. by date, without the Disability Access Service (DAS) accommodation since the DAS was changed earlier in 2024. The database is crowdsourced via anonymous surveys, and discussed experiences of many people with varying disabilities. The hope is to track the evolution of how attractions-based “alternate accommodations” are being handled by the attractions CMs – we’re looking for some kind of consistency to emerge that allows disabled guests to have some kind of idea of how things may go at various attractions.

This page covers attractions at Disneyland, in Anaheim, California. To read important updates and disclaimers about the RTQ Database, or to navigate to another park’s page, visit the RTQ Database Landing Page. To complete the survey, visit the RTQ Menu.

Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular (2)

7/4/2024, party of 3: “asked cast member to assist us in finding a seat to wait for fireworks at approximately 7ish (would have been earlier but needed to wait/rest/sit after lengthy line at Mickey railroad) . Cast member spoke with couple occupying entire bench. One seat and planter behind was available fir both of us. Couple left. Balance of bench reserved for friend of friends – 3 person party. Did allow [a] child to sit, when requested by adult with promise to vacate upon arrival of balance of party”

8/1/24, party of 3 adults, 1 disabled: “At the fireworks show, a teenager used the wheelchair as a back rest, constantly pushing me into my group, even after repeated requests to stop, and her parents doing nothing. At one point she elbowed my injury to the point I yelped… Fireworks and Fantasmic were incredibly stressful with the wheelchair, due to the crowding of people.”

Fantasmic! (3)

7/4/2024, party of 1: “Accompanied friends of friend who have autistic son. Sat across from ONLY cast member who waived his light above waistline and with a speed that was distracting and could have induced seizures. Seated accommodation without crush of crowd was lovely”

8/1/24, party of 3 adults, 1 disabled: “Fireworks and Fantasmic were incredibly stressful with the wheelchair, due to the crowding of people.”

10/12/24, party of 2 (both disabled, one using a cane): “Fantasmic show disabled seating section was a joke. CMs Moved the benches behind a tree and said it was a fire hazard to leave them in original place. Then allowed ECVs to take up all the walkway.”

Disneyland Railroad (1)

7/27/2024, party of 2 (1 disabled with a personal ECV and a cane): Survey respondent indicated that they asked for a return time at this attraction and the CM attempted to help them access this attraction, but did not share specifics.

Jungle Cruise (7)

6/19/2024, party of 1 disabled adult: Survey respondent indicated that they were told no accommodations available at this attraction.

7/7/2024, party of 1: “Yes. I tried to do what the CSM told me and wait in the line until I felt I could not wait longer. While waiting in the Jungle Cruise line, I was triggered when the line flow changed (i.e., I scoped it out prior to getting in line so I understood the path and could prepare myself), while I was waiting they opened up the upstairs section and this change triggered me. I began to disassociate and panic. I tried to get my phone out to take the picture (as I was by myself I was told that for RTQ I would just need to snap a quick photo, get out of line and when return when I could to re-enter). I could not go up the stairs. I motioned for the people behind me to go around and backed myself up into a corner area to be out of the way. One case member asked me if I was okay, and I stated I had to leave. I tried unclipping the line barrier in front of the exit but was too shaken and the CM had to do it for me. I then walked away and tried to find an area to calm down/center myself. Even though I know the park well I was disoriented…I had previously left the attraction due to a medical issue. When I returned, [redacted] was the CM at the start of the queue. I told him I had a medical episode that required me to leave the line and the DAS CM told me I could utilize RTQ. I showed him my photo, apologizing that it was blurry (during my medical event it was hard to remember to take photo and to juggle my phone in the middle of what I was going through). He asked what happened. I explained that during my wait the change in queue format triggered a medical episode and I had to leave. He asked me if I was okay waiting in a hallway/enclosed space. I told him as long as i could see the start/end (which is why I picked this line), he asked me if I would be able to get in and out of ride okay and I told him yes, my issue was not a mobility one. There is no LL and he allowed me to re-enter the line where I left it as there was an easy entrance/exit path. He then took me to where I could re-enter. The other CMs gave me looks as I entered. One asked if I was okay, I told her yes, and she said she was asking because I looked “off”. A few guests in line grumbled why I was being let in before them and didn’t have to wait. I was able to access the ride, but my day was done; I was just too embarrassed/upset by the situation to try another ride.” This guest shares that they were very disoriented, and that they probably should have went to First Aid but were unable to navigate the parks, even though they know them well. This was the first ride of the day, and because of this situation, they had to leave the park afterwards and were unable to do anything else.

10/22/24, party of 2 (1 disabled): Survey respondent indicated that the CM attempted to help them access this attraction. Respondent shared this as a response for several attractions at this park: “I was told at my das interview when denied that I should attempt to use return times and gave me instructions for it. It became increasingly hard over the few days to get cast members to give them. They started asking a lot questions and many told me they weren’t supposed to do that anymore and suggested the reunionification thing which I explained was not a reasonable accommodation to be separated from my party. Cast members seemed to be trying to confuse me and be so long winded and confusing that I had the impression they were trying to get me to give up trying to get a return time. It was stressful and embarrassing to have so many questions asked every single time. Even after I said that das told me to get the return times I was treated like I was lying or they said they were told not to do it anymore”

9/22/24, party of 4 (1 disabled adult, had “Stroller as Wheelchair” tag to use child’s stroller as a mobility device for themself): “Asked for return time at Indiana Jones bc of stroller tag. They at first didn’t want to accommodate bc my son in stroller isn’t tall enough. Explained the tag wasn’t for him it’s for me and my daughter wanted go on ride. Had go into detail explanation again why I needed it. They reluctantly did rider swap with time. Ended up not going on it at all that trip because was pretty emotionally upset.”

10/1/24, party of 2 (1 disabled w/ mobility device; 1 adult, 1 minor): Survey respondent indicated that they asked for a return time at this attraction and the CM attempted to help them access this attraction. 8/8/24, party of 1 disabled adult: “This was a VERY frustrating experience. I knew my scooter entitled me to a location return I went around 1:45 got a return time for 2:15 I killed time in the nearby HM and PoC store and went back. Now the CM had changed and he said I needed to come back in 30 minutes. I said I already have a return time and waited 30 minutes. He said the boarding area was too full and they couldnt let anyone in so I had to wait 30 minutes again. The standby line was 30 minutes so now they were asking me to wait 2x as long because of my disability. When I said this he told me I could park my scooter and go through the regular which 1) I couldn’t and 2) I had already waited the 30 minutes that didn’t actually help. This area of the park was really packed because of HM holiday and because the Tiana area is closed off so there weren’t many options for somewhere to wait out of the sun and I just gave up entirely.”

9/15/24, party of 3 (1 disabled adult, no mobility aid): “I asked for a RTQ. The CM running the line told me to ask a lady several feet away and describe that I couldn’t wait [length of time]. The 2nd lady asked me why I can’t stand in line. She told me I could not have RTQ, and that it just depended on the situation. So I got back in line with my party, but when the First Lady saw me, she let us go to the fast pass line.”

8/8/24, party of 1 disabled adults: “They told me the queue was accessible now and that the wait with the virtual queue was 20 minutes so I tried it as offered based on that info I was able to take my scooter in the building which used to be nearly impossible on HM holiday so I was happy about that and they still took me through stretching room and then side of the hallway to a scooter parking area. There they made me wait about 10 minutes to stop the ride to let me board but at this point I was struggling feeling faint from outside in the sun and felt happy to be in the AC.”
