RTQ Database: Disney’s Hollywood Studios

The RTQ Database was created as an way to keep track of disabled guests’ experiences in the parks. by date, without the Disability Access Service (DAS) accommodation since the DAS was changed earlier in 2024. The database is crowdsourced via anonymous surveys, and discussed experiences of many people with varying disabilities. The hope is to track the evolution of how attractions-based “alternate accommodations” are being handled by the attractions CMs – we’re looking for some kind of consistency to emerge that allows disabled guests to have some kind of idea of how things may go at various attractions.

This page covers attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, in Orlando, Florida. To read important updates and disclaimers about the RTQ Database, or to navigate to another park’s page, visit the RTQ Database Landing Page. To complete the survey, visit the RTQ Menu.

7/19/24, party of 5 (2 with disabilities): “[CM] was trying to offer me a LL return time but the system wasn’t working so she walked us in to the LL right then.”

7/20/24, party of 4 (2 adults, 2 minors): “I asked at every attraction to see how it would go and what I felt comfortable attempting… I approached the entrance and the cast member scanned our magic band and gave us a return time that was 10 minutes less than current wait. Perfection”

Week of 8/4/24, Party of 3 (1 disabled with a personal wheelchair, 1 minor): “Return to queue was what was offered. We were told too busy to offer return [times] like that.”

8/7/24, party of 4, 1 disabled, no mobility devices – “For any attractions that had over a 30 minute wait, I asked the CM if it would be okay if I stepped out of line if I had a medical emergency, then rejoined my party once I felt better. I specifically asked the CM at each ride if it was okay that if once my party reached the Lightning Lane merge, they would call me to return to the queue. Each CM was surprisingly understanding and allowed me to do so. I asked if I need a paper pass or anything but the CM said that as long as I came back at a reasonable time, they would let me through the LL line since they remembered what I looked like.”

She said they would not offer that but my husband could wait in line and call me when he got to a specific spot. We were not willing to separate at any time due to my health conditions so we did not do that. Then she said that they were testing Single Rider where we could wait together but might not ride together and would miss some of the pre-show. Since we’d already been on this ride many times, we decided to do this. It was a great option for us, and we ended up being one car apart. I would definitely do this again.”

7/18/2024, party of 4 disabled adults, “Asked for RTQ clarification. Explained how son out of line on own not option due to communication difficulties,. Explained how I am unable to wait in line extended time due to own disability. Told daughter could. Didn’t get chance to explain her difficulties. Seeing son upset (desperately wanted to ride) she said she would attempt alone without her support. Co-ordinaries [sp? coordinators?] left. Son distressed. CM suggested single rider. Daughter called back. This option seemed best of bad bunch offered. We got to wait together in line together at least.”

7/19/2024, party of 5 (2 disabled): “I printed and laminated an accommodation request card to present so I didn’t have to plead my case- gave it to rise of the resistance: only a return to queue to meet my companions at a designated location was offered so I stood in the 60 min standby line with my party.”

7/20/24, party of 4 (2 adults, 2 minors): “I explained, had to wait for a coordinator. Coordinator said the only option is to send the whole party thru and I wait outside and if my concerns were so severe, this isn’t the attraction for me.”

Left the line and cm said to see another cm under the umbrella to see if a return time was possible. Cm under the umbrella asked if we had others in line. I said it was just the 2 of us. He said he needed a supervisor to approve a return time. Couple minutes later she came and said as long as we were in line it was fine, but the supervisor approves it to make sure there isn’t contradictory information. She asked if we would be back soon and I said it took 45 minutes for the [child’s medical device] to run. They gave us a return time.”

Slinky Dog Dash (6)

7/8/2024, party of 2 (1 disabled minor with a medical device and a parent): Party attempted to wait in the standby line, but “left line through emergency exits. People were grumbling and seemed to think we were cutting to sneak into the LL. Asked CM for return time. She asked if there were others in our party. I said no, just the 2 of us. She asked how long we had been waiting. I said I didn’t know. She asked me to estimate. I said 10-15 minutes. She gave a return time.” The party was able to ride, and decided to try to ride again later that day. The second time, “said my daughter can’t stand in lines and asked for a return time. Was told to talk to the CM under the umbrella (not the case earlier in the day). 7/13/24, party of 9 (7 adults, 2 minors) (NOTE: one minor in this party DID have DAS, but the respondent was not included on the DAS. This was two families, and the family with the DAS recipient was not allowed to add their 5th family member to the DAS despite it being an immediate family member): “Asked for Slinky Dog as the wait was 75 minutes… I was told that since slinky dog is visible my only option was to have my family wait in line and me join them later, which was really not an option. We chose to try it another time since genie+ times were all gone.”

7/19/2024, party of 5 (2 disabled): “Slinky dog dash offered RTQ to meet my party, and blatantly said as long as the children are 7 or over one or more can wait in line for you- to which we declined that accommodation and waited almost 15 min on a manager to say the same thing- we came back later when the line was at 60 mins and did standby.”

Did not go on”

Toy Story Mania! (13)

6/21/24, party of 2, “Accommodation offered for toy story mania is wheel chair. And again… they asked me “what is your concern about waiting in line.” I didn’t think they can ask for your issues. I feel like they are trying to “catch” me lying or something. The guy was a bit dismissive. I unfortunately was just kind of seeing red and didn’t catch his name…He told me the line is mostly inside. Thankfully the guy at the standby line got it. He told me about the emergency exits at least and seemed more understanding.”

7/5/24, party of 4 (3 adults – 2 disabled, and 1 minor) One disabled adult uses an ECV: Survey respondent indicated that they were told no accommodations available at this attraction. Further, this guest ended up having a medical issue in this line required medical attention and the party had to leave the park early.

7/19/2024, party of 1 disabled adult, Survey respondent indicated that they asked for, and were given a return time specifically because they were a solo visitor.

7/20/24, party of 4 (2 adults, 2 minors): “told me my caretaker & I could stay outside and all children over 7 could wait in line… When I was like you must be joking, I just kind of left [because] repeatedly asking was emotionally draining.”

Week of 8/4/24, Party of 3 (1 disabled with a personal wheelchair, 1 minor): “[Return] to queue was what was offered.

8/26/24, party of 2 (1 disabled adult with a mobility device): I asked for Que re-entry to a CM and they had no idea what that was. I tried to explain it and she didn’t understand. I talked to another CM and he asked another one to do a call back time. It was near the end of the night, so she just had us go through the Lightning Lane without waiting. “

Week of 9/9/2024, party of 9, one disabled: Survey respondent indicated that they were told there were no accommodations available at this attraction. “[Out of] All the rides I attempted to do only one had a cast member willing to help me and that was Star Tours… All other rides gave me no help and I had to leave two queues due to issues.”

9/15/24, party of 2 adults, one disabled: “I approached the CM at the Lightning Lane and explained my issues and concerns, quickly pulled his [coordinator] to come talk to me where I had to re-explain everything. I was offered return to queue, I informed them that this would not work for me. She begrudgingly offered me a return time but made sure to express that it was a one time thing and that she did not have to give me one.”

11/3/2024, party of 5 (2 adults, 3 minors. 2 party members are disabled and 1 uses a mobility device): Survey respondent indicated that they were told no accommodations available at this attraction.

They were later told to “wait in line, [if] need to leave [we would] get a return time.” Party was warned that the child’s medical device “may be affected by the magnets used to launch the ride. 7/18/2024, party of 2 (1 disabled, 1 caregiver): “For Rock ‘n Roller Coaster we approached the CM and asked for a return time due to being denied DAS. The CM said they would not do that, so we left and scheduled a Lightning Lane for that evening.”

WEEK OF 6/30/24, party of 4, at least one mobility device – Survey respondent indicated that the CM attempted to help them access this attraction, but did not share specifics.

7/5/24, party of 4 (3 adults – 2 disabled, and 1 minor) One disabled adult uses an ECV: “Yes, at tower of terror I was criticized for asking the attendant to let me skip the pre-show so I could mitigate an incident…I was criticized [by other guests] for asking the attendant to let me skip the pre-show… I was able to skip the show prior to ToT and was escorted to the elevator.”

7/8/2024, party of 2 (1 disabled minor with a medical device and a parent): “Asked CM for return time. Said someone else had to do it and called that person over. He scanned our magic bands and gave us a return time”

7/18/2024, party of 2 (1 disabled, 1 caregiver): “We approached the CM at Tower of Terror and requested accommodations. We were with friends who have a family member who had a DAS pass, and I said that I was denied but my accommodation was to request a return time. The CM was very kind and just added the 2 of us to their pass so we could all ride together.”

7/20/24, party of 4 (2 adults, 2 minors): “Tower of Terror gave me a return to tied to magic band” but the respondent chose to leave before riding due to frustration over issues the party was dealing with in the park.

8/7/24, party of 4, 1 disabled, no mobility devices – “For any attractions that had over a 30 minute wait, I asked the CM if it would be okay if I stepped out of line if I had a medical emergency, then rejoined my party once I felt better. 6/9/24, party of 4, 3 with disabilities (NOTE: one member of this party DID have DAS, but the respondent indicated that they were not with that party member for a large part of the day): “they moved us to the entry that worked for the disability entrances”

6/21/24, party of 2, “We got to Fantasmic very early at WDW. They were seating at the far end of the theater. I kindly asked a cast member to let me sit closer to the side of the theater nearer to the bathroom. We always ask to sit up near the handicapped bc I can’t go down and up. They usually give us the row right in front of handicap on an end. Today they let us sit in that row just before the switch from dining package. We didn’t ask for the upgrade, but appreciated the kindness and understanding of both a cast member and a coordinator!”

6/27/24, party of 2: “We had a dining package for Fantasmic and they tried to make us fill in the middle of the row for that section but I said I couldn’t due to being autistic. The first CM just let me stay at the end of the row in the non-accessible seating but then another one came along and made us move to the accessible seating. It was one row up so I just did it without complaining even though I didn’t really need accessible seating (and also the section was pretty empty so I didn’t feel like I was taking space from someone who needed it).”

7/19/24, party of 5 (2 disabled): “The road back to Fantasmic was horrendously long and then we were seated on the far end down near the bottom having to descend then ascend the steps with hundreds of people who were trying to run/push past me.” Survey respondent indicated that the other party member with disabilities had an anxiety or panic attack trying to exit after the show due to crowd size.

Week of 8/4/24, Party of 3 (1 disabled with a personal wheelchair, 1 minor): “Shows did have areas for wheelchairs but [are] popular come early or you are not able to attend unless you can walk to an area.”

9/15/24, party of 2 adults, one disabled: “I informed CM after CM that I could not do stairs. They kept pointing me to the next CM down the line, this happened 4 or 5 time until we were finally told to keep with the crowd and talk to the CM at the top of the stair case where they were directing everyone. When we arrived to the top there was no one there so we went ahead and sat down in the top row where we were rudely informed by a family near us that the seating area was reserved for those who needed it and not for us. A minute or so after the show stared a Cord came over telling us we needed to get up and move. We had to explain twice that we needed to sit in the accessible seating for a reason even though I look “normal” as she said. After that we were left in peace.”
