RTQ: Disney’s Animal Kingdom

The RTQ Database was created as an way to keep track of disabled guests’ experiences in the parks. by date, without the Disability Access Service (DAS) accommodation since the DAS was changed earlier in 2024. The database is crowdsourced via anonymous surveys, and discussed experiences of many people with varying disabilities. The hope is to track the evolution of how attractions-based “alternate accommodations” are being handled by the attractions CMs – we’re looking for some kind of consistency to emerge that allows disabled guests to have some kind of idea of how things may go at various attractions.

This page covers attractions at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, in Orlando, Florida. To read important updates and disclaimers about the RTQ Database, or to navigate to another park’s page, visit the RTQ Database Landing Page. To complete the survey, visit the RTQ Menu.

General (2)

WEEK OF 6/30/24, party of 4, at least one mobility device: “This is the WORST park of all for accessibility!!! I want every Disney exec to get in a wheelchair and try it out for a week!”

8/26/24, party of 2 adults, 1 disabled with a mobility device: Survey respondent noted issues with long character lines. “I should have asked to wait outside the line for characters, because I struggled through some of those lines, like meeting Dug and Russell.” Character meet and greets are not always given an option like waiting outside the queue, however, it is important to note that some of the popular characters, especially those outdoors, may have queues that are difficult for some guests.

Na’vi River Journey (4)

6/18/2024, party of 1: Survey respondent indicated that they were told no accommodations available at this attraction.

8/18/24, party of 3 (1 disabled adult, 2 minors) – Adult has airborne-reactive anaphylactic food allergies – “At Na’vi River Journey, someone about 4 people in front of me was eating something I have an anaphylactic airborne allergy to. When we were partway through the line and I saw that it turned into a crush of people, I collected my 2 kids and we returned to the beginning. I let the cast member know I have an airborne food allergy and that I was directed to leave the queue and ask for a return time if I see someone eating something I’m allergic to, and that I was concerned with the crush of people. He gave us a return time for 20 minutes later. When we returned at that time, the system wasn’t wanting to allow us to enter yet, but he remembered us and the time he’d set and was able to override it.”

9/19/24, party of 2 disabled adults, one with an ECV: Survey respondent indicated that a Cast Member attempted to help them experience this attraction, and shared this general experience statement about several rides in this park: “I was able to get accommodations at a number of attractions without having to ask or make a case for it because of the use of the ECV. Cast members at the entrance to these attractions would direct me a certain way or ask what kind of accommodations I needed before I entered the queue. This was very helpful and they were all very kind and understanding.”

5/14/25, party of 3 (all adults, 1 adult is disabled, no mobility devices), Survey respondent indicated that the CM attempted to help them access this attraction, but did not share specifics.

7/1/2024, party of 3 adults, 1 disabled w/ ECV: “I was offered solo reentry and to leave my party if I was experiencing issues. I refused to ride and we left the park shortly after.”

7/2/2024, party of 2 adults, 1 disabled: “At FOP, I asked a CM about accommodations. she asked what I meant by “accommodations”. I said I was denied DAS and was told to ask about accommodations at each attraction. I explained how RTQ isn’t a good option for my party (myself and my mom) as I have emergency medication that needs to be administered should I pass out (from a rare, life threatening condition I have). I asked about a return time instead, and she told me that FOP is an attraction that does not do return times. She explained I could do RTQ and/or bring my backpack into the line (which I always have on me, as it has all my stuff and the emergency meds). I knew I couldn’t wait in that queue, so we just left. I was not able to ride, and I was very disappointed.”

7/10/2024, party of 4 (2 adults, 2 minors, 1 disabled): “I was denied help by a cast member and actually told I could try and purchase an LL as an accommodation!!”

We could not get an ILL until evening and we had dinner plans. This was very disappointing to me and I want it to be noted. Wait times were never under 140mins at any point.”

Cast member [name redacted] told me that my husband and myself and mom ( 2 wheelchairs) should wait for my two children to go through the line. I asked how [husband] was supposed to push both of us to somewhere out of the heat or even to catch up with the kids, [Cast Member] shrugged and said ‘sorry- that’s our policy.’ “
