Hey everyone. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the RTQ database update will likely run tomorrow at the earliest. I am posting this from my phone, which is not intuitive at all, and I apologize in advance for any typos or weird grammar.
On Friday morning, the day I intended to move all of the segments of the database onto their own individual pages, my computer crashed completely with repeated blue screens. I have some good news and some bad news about what that means.
The Good
- My computer is in the hands of the repair team. We’re working to get the data off it and then may need to ship it out to be fixed. It’s under warranty, so we should be okay.
- My wife and I are working on a workaround, and I may be able to get the next update to the database up within the next 24 hours. This involves an older desktop computer that is technically in the process of being upgraded and not fully up and running, but should be doable enough as a stopgap. However, we had to get an ethernet cable and a couple other accessories to be able to use this computer. Those are supposed to be delivered later this evening.
- The RTQ database data is not stored on the hard drive of the computer that went down, so I won’t have any issues with lost raw data.
The Bad
- I don’t have a timeframe on when this computer repair will be completed. I am keeping my fingers crossed to have my actual computer back within the week, but I’m really not guaranteed anything. This really sucks, because not only does it affect my ability to run the database, but I also need it for work.
- While the database raw data was not stored on my computer, I was using a notepad for rankings for the July review. All of that is likely lost. I won’t know until I have the computer back. If it is, it means that I’m going to have to pull my ranking information again to be able to finish those posts.
What’s Next?
I definitely still want to encourage everybody to submit their experiences to the database via the surveys as soon as you can. I cannot figure out how to add an a link through posting via phone, but if you go to http://www.accessthemouse.com/rtqmenu you can scroll down to find the surveys. As soon as I’ve got a system up and running that I can work with, I will be doing the weekly update. This round of updates will include the splitting up of parks into their own pages, since I was unable to do that on Friday like I had planned.
Also, if you follow me on TikTok @accessthemouse I am currently working on sharing my thoughts on the D23 Parks Panel last night.
