Disneyland’s Toontown Reopens Today with Inclusion and Accessibility at the Forefront

Just over a year ago, Disneyland’s Toontown closed for refurbishment, and today is the big day. Toontown is officially open again for guests to enjoy. For guests with young kids or family members with sensory or access needs, Disney has put inclusion and accessibility at the top of the priority list for this refurbishment.

Walt Disney Imagineering’s goal was to remove barriers to play and bring in more open spaces for guests to gather.

The entrance to the land, CenTOONial Park, features a fountain with water tables for guests to enjoy sensory play. The park’s dreaming tree allows for gross motor play, and includes a wheelchair-accessible path for children with mobility devices to be able to participate.

Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard and the adjacent Donald Duck’s Pond include a sound garden, a candy-making interactive play area, roller slides (which incorporate multiple senses, are often good for sensory seekers, kids with mobility challenges, and young kids, and have the added benefit of reducing static electricity, which makes it preferable to traditional slides for kids with some medical devices)

In addition to these new and exciting features, the land includes a companion restroom, quieter areas to help alleviate sensory overload, shade, and open green space for kids to get out some energy.
