Home Blog: Episode 2

It’s been a super busy week here as my family wraps up preparations for our trip. A couple other big non-Disney things are going on in the background of our life that will take up a lot of time when we get back, so we had a lot of things scheduled for this week in order to be able to “hit the ground running” after our return flight, so to speak.

One of the things that we had to do this week was dental work. The oldest kid had a couple small fillings that needed to be handled on Monday, which went great. The appointment I was absolutely dreading, though, was for the toddler. Despite being seen by the dentist regularly since he was less than a year old, he has some major issues with his back teeth. On Thursday, he had dental surgery to put crowns on the two teeth that were severely deteriorated, and fillings done on some other cavities.

We think there are a combination of factors at play with his teeth. He still nurses at night and he grinds his teeth something awful. But still, I don’t know how his teeth are as bad as his are, because his siblings didn’t have ANY issues with their teeth at all until they were much older. The only thing I can come up with is that because my Graves Disease activated when I was pregnant with him, maybe there was an issue with him getting enough of the bone-strengthening vitamins and minerals in the womb. Either way, he did great with the surgery, and was back to his usual playful self that evening.

In other news, while we were over near the dentist’s office on Monday, we decided to stop in at the mall over there. We have a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique reservation for the oldest on this trip. She’ll be thirteen soon, and we wanted to make sure she had the chance to experience it once before she’s too old. The problem is, Disney doesn’t have the princess dresses in adult sizes and my twelve year old wears a women’s large. She’s almost as tall as me, and not done growing. So we were on a mission to find a dress that made her feel like a princess. We had limited time, so we hit Old Navy first, but the only dress she liked there didn’t fit well.

But while we were looking around, I noticed that Old Navy has up to a 4X in stores. I decided on a whim to grab a couple pairs of the shorts out of the clearance section and go try them out in the fitting room. I’ve always been self-conscious of my legs, and have never gone on a vacation without long pants or a full length dress, but I have some very cute dresses I want to wear this year. I am pleased to report that the 4X shorts I tried on fit me really well. This is the very first time I’ve fit into anything at Old Navy, but I’ll be investigating this more soon when we’re back from vacation. I’m interested to see how consistent their sizes are.

To solve the princess dress situation, I ordered a gorgeous dress from the Trish Scully Dress Up section. They carry sizes up to a women’s XL (14/16). The dress we bought fit her perfectly, and she is so excited to wear it for her BBB appointment next week. I do recommend going by measurements and not just winging it by size, just in case.
