Avatar: Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Seat Accessibility Review

Okay, y’all. There is no way in heck my wife and I were gonna fit on that ride. I was disappointed, BUT I missed out on a four hour wait for it, so… I’m not TOO disappointed. So… here’s my thoughts… there was a group of about 8 people, all who walked up at different times, conversing about how ridiculous this ride car was. People much thinner than me were not fitting. Tall people don’t fit. People with back sensitivity can’t ride.

I personally sat on the seat fine, BUT the back restraint could not come up basically at all because of my legs. Thick thighs and calves make this basically impossible for me and if your legs are similar to mine, you may have this problem as well. Everything engages at the same time so the legs prevent the back from coming up. I’m about 385 lbs, 5″6. Biggest area is butt/hips/thighs.

For my wife, the issue is her height especially. She’s got that supermodel height going on. She’s 6’6″. The front of the ride car where the bottom your legs go is not as deep as the knee area. The restraints came up right into her calves and the back of her thighs.

I would venture to say the thighs and the angle of the legs are more an issue than the calves themselves for both of us. I would also like to warn anyone who may have bad knees: if you are worried about fitting, be super careful when checking the test car and riding. I messed up the tendon in the back of my knee when I sat in it and tried to bring my legs forward as far as I could and have been having some trouble walking since.

This is me today, anyway. We’re here at DAK celebrating our anniversary and belated honeymoon (and my graduation). If you see us around, feel free to say hi!
